King Lake Cellars wines are steeped deep in the earth in the most literal and figurative sense possible.
The earth and its mysteries have always drawn our winemaker’s attention. Before he discovered wine, he was a Geotechnical engineer, striving to understand the forces beneath in order to support structures above. He was drawn to the seemingly impossible mountain peaks that erupted with unimaginable pressure and passing of time to become the inspiring and graceful backdrops of our beloved home.
He manifested this reverence by climbing to the summit of Mt. Rainier several times and by finally putting down his roots on our current property with sweeping views of his favorite mountain, from King Lake over a hundred miles away.
Of course, it should come as no surprise that the symbiotic relationship between the deep twisting, seeking roots of the grape vine and its’ terroir’s culmination in a glass of wine would eventually come to hold as much fascination for him. A dream to curate beautiful, approachable wines on our serene, mountain top home with views that satisfy royals was born.
And so began the history of King Lake Cellars…
Our winemaking honors simplicity.
At King Lake Cellars, we focus on the best quality fruit from some of the top AVA’s in Washington. We strongly believe in finding a vineyard where what is beneath the surface is just as important as what is growing above. Our winemaker’s diligent pursuit of quality grapes, allows him to focus less on adding and subtracting things in the cellar, and more on allowing the wine to develop the way nature intended. Our processes are not complicated and are designed to let the natural characters of the grape varietal stand out.
We are not pretentious.
We hope when you visit you will enjoy the laid back atmosphere one would expect of a remote hilltop winery. Whether you are sipping a chilled wine on the patio or tasting through our reds in our wine cave, feel free to mosey and relax, and if you’re lucky, the mountain will be out!

King Lake Cellars is a boutique winery and we produce 1000 cases or less. You will not find our wines in stores but our wine club is inclusive and a great way to ensure you always have a glass of King Lake Wine at the ready.
